Bison century men

BASINGSTOKE UK: For the second week running a Bison forward reached the landmark of 100 EPL league goals for the club.

This week it was the turn of British hot shot Ciaran Long to reached the magic three figure numbers just six days after Czech import Tomas Karpov scored his 100th league goal for the Herd at Sheffield.200px-LogoBasingstokeBison

They became the 11th and 12th players respectively in the club history to score 100 times for the Hampshire based team since its birth in 1988.

Long’s strike was the game breaker against the Milton Keynes Lightning in a very close first period.

The Lightning were to strike back with an equaliser from Milan Baranyk, which was a powerplay goal, the first the Bison had conceded in seven games.

The home side then made sure of victory as Shaun Thompson and former MK star Rene Jarolin shorthanded both scored.

Having beaten the side second in the table, the Herd travelled to leaders Telford looking for a double over the top two in the EPL.

It looked to be going to plan as they led 1-0 at the first break from captain Aaron Connolly.

As in the previous night, their opponents levelled things as Milan Kolena.

The Herd already minus Joe Baird then lost another blue liner in Jan Jarabek as he was hit in the face by the puck, leaving them with three defencemen for the final session.

Telford scored twice in the final 20 minutes from Phil Hill and Kolena to seal a 3-1 victory and take a 3-0 series lead over the Herd.

“We had a very good work ethic in both games last weekend. We won on Saturday and were unlucky on Sunday. We have to keep this level up as we head into another important weekend, ” said Bison head coach Doug Sheppard.

This starts with a crunch game with the Swindon Wildcats, which is a combined cup and league game. Both sides know a regulation loss would end their chances of a semi-final place.

This will add even more spice to this game, if any was needed, after the teams played out a penalty filled clash last time around. which the Bison won 2-1.

On Sunday night, the Bison are on the road to face the Hull Pirates who are one place above them in the standings.
