Bison add two to roster

BASINGSTOKE, UK – The Bison have added two more British players to their roster for the coming campaign with the signing of forward Ashley Taylor and the re-signing of defenseman Joe Baird.

The 29-year-old was one of the top 10 top scoring Brits in South One last term and also played a big part in helping the Invicta Dynamos to their play-off crown.

The Kent born forward last term returned an impressive 37 points from 20 games hitting the net 18 times.

For Jackson this was his first full campaign in an Invicta sweater as he is one of the World’s top field hockey players.

He is Great Britain and England’s all-time leading goal scorer with 133 goals and has played 234 times for his country having made his debut at 19.

Jackson also played in the last four Olympic games, including last year’s one in Rio.

The re-signing of Baird means the Herd have one of the most experience players in the NIHL.

The 37-year-old played over 650 games in the English Premier League and the Southampton-born player began his career in the Bison junior set-up, making his senior debut at the age of 14 in season 1994/95.

As a teenager, Baird played in the Bison’s final year in the Superleague  and scored in both the Herd’s  two Benson and Hedges Plate triumphs in Sheffield.

After spells at the Wightlink Raiders, Bracknell Bees and Swindon Wildcats.

The blue liner returned to the Bison in their double-winning season of 2013/14 and was also a member of the league winning team two years later.

Last term his fourth straight with the team, he finished with 18 points from 52 games scoring just once.

“Both these players bring so much to the team both on and off the ice to the team, ” said Bison head coach Doug Sheppard.
