Bishop backstops Stars to 6-0 win over Sharks

The Dallas Stars are finding success over the last few weeks and Sunday night Ben Bishop made 26 saves backstop a 6-0 win over the visiting San Jose Sharks.

John Klingberg scored once in the win.

“I think we’re playing some really good hockey, I think we dominated a lot of aspects of the game,” Klingberg said. “Special teams and 5-on-5 game as well, and when we needed [Bishop] to step up, he did. We feel good about ourselves now. We’ve got a lot of confidence.”

Tyler Pitlick struck twice in the Dallas win.

Bishop has found a home in Dallas and the shutout was his fourth of the year.

“I think that was kind of the big thing the last couple of months was just trying to find the consistency in our game, and I think we’re starting to find it,” Bishop said. “We’re starting to get on the same page here. Now it’s just about doing it night in and night out. Once you find it, kind of like we have, it’s about repeating it every single night.”

The Sharks dropped to 20-12-4 with the loss and saw their three-game streak snapped.

“We didn’t get going. You prepare to play, come out, and we were fighting the puck early. I think that led to we didn’t break out clean, we didn’t connect two passes together for a while,” the Sharks’ Joe Pavelskisaid. “You spend a lot of time in your end. You saw the shots early, you saw some of the chances. [Goalie Martin] Jones kept us in there. If we can strike for one and kind of find our game a little bit there’s a chance for us. It just never happened.”

Stephen Johns, Tyler Seguin and Devin Shore added single markers in the win.

The Stars improved to 22-15-3 with the win and continue to see a full building on home ice.

“It seems every time you look up it’s a full building, and it’s a crowd that they’re helping us a lot because they’re really into it. I think the players appreciate the support, and I think it works in a good way [and] the players are feeding off of that energy,” Stars head coach Ken Hitchcock said after the game. “The biggest thing for me is that the fans are starting to see that this is a team that now has an identity, and they can see it on the ice. They can see the way we play, and I think they’re really into what we’re doing right now.”

Martin Jones got the start for the Sharks and made 18 saves through 40 minutes of play before being relieved after the second intermission.

Aaron Dell mopped up in the third period and made eight stops.

“Not the way we want to start the road trip. I think right from the drop of the puck, I thought they were the hungrier team. They won the first shift and kind of set the tone from there. I didn’t think we really responded until the second period. By then, we were already in a 2-0 hole,” Sharks head coach Peter DeBoer said after the game.
