Billings wins it for Blaze with only goal in shootout

The Genting Casino Coventry Blaze made it five points out of six against Scottish opposition this week with a 1-0 shoot-out victory over Fife Flyers at Skydome Arena on Sunday.

After beating Glasgow Clan and adding a point in a penalty-shots defeat to Dundee Stars earlier in the week, the Blaze returned home to face off against a Flyers side containing many familiar faces.

The one who stood out above all was netminder Shane Owen who iced for the Blaze in the 2021 Elite Series, making 48 saves for the Flyers to register a shut-out through regulation and overtime.

At the other end Coventry’s Paavo Holsa produced 29 saves to collect the man of the match award for the home side, and he out-did his opposite number in the shoot-out by stopping all five of Fife’s shots.

Forward Jack Billings was the only successful attempt, and his effort kept Blaze within touching distance of the Viaplay Elite League’s top four.
