Big night of EIHL Challenge Cup action on Wednesday

It’s a big night of Challenge Cup action in the Elite League this Wednesday evening.

Coventry Blaze head to face Belfast Giants with a one-goal aggregate lead in their semi-final second leg. The Giants must win by one goal to force overtime, or by two or more to progress outright. Any win for Coventry – or a tie on the night – will see the Blaze advance to the final.

Overtime, if required, will be played 3-on-3 for 10 minutes under sudden-death rules. Should no winner be found, a standard EIHL shootout will decide the tie.

In Nottingham, the Panthers host Sheffield Steelers in the first leg of their semi-final series. The teams haven’t met since Christmas, when the Panthers won at home in regulation while the Steelers won on their own ice in overtime. Unlike the game in Belfast, there can be no overtime in this fixture as it is the first leg, so the score after 60 minutes will carry over into next week’s return game in Sheffield.

In both cup fixtures tonight, the remote situation room will be in operation, with coaches having additional challenge options.
