COLUMBUS, GA – Shannon Szabados stood on her head and made 35 saves to lead the Columbus Cottonmouths to a 2-1 victory over the Fayetteville FireAntz.
Columbus was led by Patrick McCadden, who registered one goal. McCadden scored 15:15 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Columbus. Kyle Shapiro assisted on the tally.
The Cottonmouths put 30 shots on net during the contest, more than the 24.0 they average per game.
Columbus got a goal from John Jackson as well. More assists for Columbus came fromRyan Whitell and Shawn Bates, who contributed one each.
Fayetteville managed to stay out of the box better than usual, tallying one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The FireAntz wound up below its season average of 19.0 penalty minutes per game. Fayetteville could not produce up to its normal offensive output. The FireAntz put an average of 3.5 pucks into the net per game. Fayetteville forced Columbus goalie Szabados to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots.
The FireAntz were led by Nick Lazorko, who scored the team’s only goal. Lazorko scored 4:06 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Joe Tolles picked up the assist.
The Cottonmouths avoided the penalty box for the entire game, but couldn’t net a goal off of their one power play. Parker Van Buskirk rejected 28 shots on goal for Fayetteville.
