Best Shots of the Game; Columbus rides Jaeger to victory over Knoxville 6 -1

phn-bsog COLUMBUS, GA – The Columbus Cottonmouths relied on the sparkling performance of Brandon Jaeger in net to grab a 6-1 win against the Knoxville Ice Bears.

Shawn Bates quarterbacked Columbus’ offense to perfection and bagged four assists in the Cottonmouths’ win over Knoxville.

The 29 shots that Columbus put on net surpassed the Cottonmouths’ average of 23.8 shots per game this season. Columbus out-did its season average for goals scored. The Cottonmouths have scored at the pace of 2.8 goals per game during the current campaign.

Columbus also had two goals from Cody Freeman, and Craig Simchuk, Patrick McCadden, Kyle Brodie, and Al Graves, each scored one. More assists for Columbus came via Garret Lockeridge, who had one, Ben O’Quinn, who had three, and Andy Bathgate and John Jackson, who contributed two each.

The Ice Bears’ penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled five minors and two majors for 30 minutes in penalty time. Knoxville had been averaging 16.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Ice Bears’ offense was clicking better than usual and put 28 shots on goal during the game, better than the 24.4 shots per game they average. Knoxville’s defensemen also contributed in the offensive zone and ended up with 12 shots between them.

Jaeger recorded 27 saves for Columbus. The Cottonmouths totaled 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors and two majors and went 1-for-4 on the power play. Braely Torris rejected 23 shots on goal for the Ice Bears. Knoxville registered one goal on two power play opportunities.
