COLUMBUS, GA – The Columbus Cottonmouths fought hard tonight, but fell short in a close 4-2 loss to Huntsville.
Although the Snakes could not keep pace with the 49 shots on goals for Huntsville, they managed to give up only 3 goals while goalie Shannon Szbados was in net.
The Cottonmouth’s Ben O’Quinn and Huntsville’s John McGinnis each put the first points on the board in the first period. The second period went without a score and took the game into the final period with the teams tied at one.
Al Graves (Columbus) helped the Snakes take the lead two minutes into the game, but the lead was short lived. The Havoc stormed back and took the lead after two power play goals scored by Stuart Stefan and John McGinnis. The final goal of the night came on a break away, open-net goal by Scott Henegar.
Kevin Genoe was in net for the Havoc and held on to get the win as the Snakes only put the puck on net a total of 26 times. Szabados had a fantastic night, the glove was flashing and she was seeing the puck very well as the game progressed. Unfortunately, the defense could not hold the Havoc out and Huntsville skated out with the win.
