Berube signs three-year contract to remain Blues coach

Craig Berube signed a three-year contract with the St. Louis Blues on Wednesday that will run through the 2024-25 season.

The 56-year-old coach was in the final season of a three-year contract he signed with the Blues on June 24, 2019, after leading them to their first Stanley Cup championship as interim coach. He is 133-71-30 in four seasons.

“I came in here four years ago and we’ve had great success here,” Berube told the Blues website. “We have a chance to win again. I think that (general manager) Doug (Armstrong) does everything he can to put a winning team on the ice, and as a coach, I think that’s a great thing. I really enjoy St. Louis, I enjoy the fan base and it’s a great organization.”

St. Louis (26-13-5), which is fourth in the eight-team Central Division, has qualified for the Stanley Cup Playoffs in each of Berube’s previous three seasons but has not won a series since winning the Cup.

“I’ve enjoyed working with Doug Armstrong and (chairman) Tom Stillman, working with the coaching staff and training staff and all the players we have here,” Berube said. “Why would I want to go anywhere else? I love it here.”

Berube, who joined the Blues as an associate June 25, 2017, replaced Mike Yeo as coach on Nov. 19, 2018. The former NHL forward coached the Philadelphia Flyers for two seasons from 2013-15, going 75-58-28.
