Bennett’s Overtime Winner Lifts Marksmen Past Ice Bears 3-2, Extends Win Streak

KNOXVILLE, TN – When you see what the Marksmen have done in their last three games, it’s hard to believe that they were just on a six game losing streak. Fresh off a holiday break, things turned around for the Marksmen. Three straight wins and only losing two of their last nine periods, it’s obvious this is a new and dangerous Marksmen team.

Tonight’s hero was Shane Bennett. In his sophomore season, Bennett has proved to be a vital asset to the Marksmen offense. Bennett scored his fourth goal of the season in overtime.

“I don’t really remember how I ended up getting the puck.” Bennett said. “I made a quick little cut up the ice and the player who was chasing me sort of trailed off. I just took it down the ice with the intention of cutting back up and waiting for my teammates but when I cut across I noticed I had some room. I knew the goalie was weak low, I just used their defense as a screen and it ended up working out for us.”

Things have clearly changed inside the Marksmen locker room, with each player giving it their all on every shift.

“I think all the guys know that we as a team, are far better than our record shows. It all starts in practice.” Bennett said about his teams performance in the latter part of the season. “We’ve been working real hard in practice and it’s starting to show in games for sure. If we keep playing the way we have so far this half and keep getting better everyday, there’s not a team in this league we can’t beat.”

That is exactly the case as of late, with the Marksmen beating the Rail Yard Dawgs, Ice Bears and the Mayhem. Danny Cesarz was the only other Ice Bear to score tonight, while Tim Kielich and Brian Bowen joined Bennett in the goal column for the Marksmen. If the Marksmen continue their impressive style of play, there’s a very realistic chance that they can win their next three games on the road against the Ice Flyers and Rail Yard Dawgs.
