The Owen Sound Attack had seven different goal scorers, and just one player not register a point, in a big 9-3 rout of the visiting Niagara Ice Dogs on Wednesday night.
The win was the perfect bounce back performance that the Bears needed, after falling flat during a pair of road games down south this past weekend. The high scoring affair opened up just over three minutes into the contest, when Attack defensemen Taos Jordan found himself on top of the Ice Dogs crease, and in a perfect place to tip home a Nolan Seed centring pass for his first goal of the season. Niagara had an opportunity to pull even shortly after the Jordan goal, and while they beat Owen Sound goalie Corbin Votary, the puck clanged off the post and back out to keep the Attack’s lead in tact. Owen Sound would take advantage of the fortunate bounce, as they pressed their foot to the gas and completely took the game over, posting four goals on the board before the end of the opening 20 minutes.
The middle frame began much the same for the Attack, as Jackson Stewart was able to get just enough on his shot to have the puck cross the goal line and stretch the lead to 5-0. Niagara would spoil the shut out bid just a few minutes later as they got on the scoreboard. The teams would again trade goals just shortly after the midway point of the period, but it was Ethan Burroughs netting his second of the period late in the middle frame as the Attack skated into intermission with the same four goal lead.
The teams would play a relatively quiet third period, as both just wanted to get to the final buzzer without issue. Once again both team’s traded goals just minutes apart around the halfway mark of the period, before some animosity flared up. Late in the period, a dust up in front led to Attack defensemen Teddy Sawyer taking a stick across the jaw. The infraction led to a major penalty, which the Bears capitalized on once, as Deni Goure netted his second of the night.
Owen Sound will continue their week by travelling down Highway 10 to round out their season series with the Mississauga Steelheads on Friday night, before coming back home where they look to get some revenge against the Flint Firebirds Saturday night at the Bayshore. Tickets for Saturday night can be purchased at the MacVicor and McComb Sutton Realty Attack Box Office by calling 519-371-7452 or going online at tickets.attackhockey.com.
