Bears rout Marlies, 8-3, lead series 3-0

TORONTO – After losing the first two games in Hershey, the Toronto Marlies look more like the team that won 54 games during the regular season and started off Game Three of the AHL Eastern Conference Finals with a 2-1 lead and things were looking up for Toronto’s “other” team. The problem, however, was that there were still two periods left to play in the game.

The Hershey Bears, the AHL’s winningest franchise, scored six unanswered goals and took one major step closer to another title with a resounding 8-2 win over the Toronto Marlies and more importantly a 3-0 series lead for the Bears who can clinch the series Friday night in Game Four in Toronto. 2016__calder_cup_playoffs-primary-2016

For the most part in the three games played so far the Marlies have gotten off to good starts to the games. It was no different Wednesday night outshooting Hershey 11-6 and goals by Josh Leivo and Colin Smith. From the second period on it was the Zach Sill and Jakub Vrana, who scored his 6th and 7th goals of the players and now is tied for the league lead in goals during the playoffs.

Carter Camper added two assists for Hershey and now is tied for the league lead in points with 15 and assists with 9. Justin Peters was solid in net for the Bears making 25 saves on 27 shots. Both goaltenders, Garret Sparks and Antoine Bibeau played for Toronto on the night allowing four goals each.

If there is a Games 5 is will also be played in Toronto on Sunday.
