MELBOURNE, Australia – Despite being outshot 33-21, the Sydney Bears found the back of the net more often and upended the Mustangs in Melbourne, 3-1.
Sean Jones kept the Bears’ Anthony Kimlin from hanging a shutout on Melbourne when he scored with just 12 seconds left in the match.
Nic Kawasaki scored twice, including one on the power play, for the Bears and Billy Cliff potted a marker in the third period to get Sydney a 3-0 lead.
Kawasaki scored early in the second period to give the Bears a 1-0 lead and then added his second, the game-winner, midway through the third period.
The Mustangs are now just one point ahead of the Bears in the AIHL ladder with 26 points and the Bears have a game in hand.
