Ethan Bear was traded to the Carolina Hurricanes from the Edmonton Oilers for Warren Foegele on Wednesday.
Bear, a 24-year-old defenseman, scored eight points (two goals, six assists) in 43 regular-season games and was held without a point in four Stanley Cup Playoff games last season.
“Ethan is a young, right-shot defenseman with offensive upside,” Hurricanes general manager Don Waddell said. “We’re excited to add him to our team as he continues to grow as an NHL player.”
A fifth-round pick (No. 124) by the Oilers in the 2015 NHL Draft, Bear has scored 33 points (eight goals, 25 assists) in 132 NHL games and is without a point in eight playoff games. He has one season remaining on a two-year contract he signed with Edmonton on December 29, 2020.
Foegele, a 25-year-old forward, scored 20 points (10 goals, 10 assists) in 53 regular-season games and two points (one goal, one assist) in 10 playoff games last season. A third-round pick in (No. 67) by the Hurricanes in the 2014 NHL Draft, Foegele has scored 68 points (35 goals, 33 assists) in 200 NHL games and 12 points (seven goals, five assists) in 33 postseason games. He is a restricted free agent.
