Battalion snap skid, grab post season slot

BARRIE, ONTARIO – North Bay Battalion broke a four-game losing streak, and grabbed an Ontario Hockey League’s Eastern Conference playoff spot with win over the Barrie Colts Thursday night, 4-2 in front of 3,644 fans at the Barrie Molson Centre.

Even with the defeat the Colts hold onto first place in the Central Division (78 points, 2nd in Conference) followed by 2nd place North Bay (71 points, 4th in Conference).North Bay Battalion logo

North Bay would rally from a 2-0 deficit in the 2nd frame with 3 goals, the first two within 14 seconds of the other. Brett McKenzie (8th) started the rally at 11:15 on a power play goal, and then at 11:29 Hampus Olsson would grab his 5th goal of the season. Miles Liberati (10th) snapped one into the net on a pass from Mathew Santos at 17:43.

Colts Joseph Blandisi (5th leading scorer, 100 points) opened the first period with a goal on a turnover at 12:44 (1-0). Justin Scott would give the Colts a 2-0 lead at :40 in the 2nd off a shot from Kevin LeBlanc.

Barrie’s Goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood would defend 32 shots while North Bay’s Jake Smith faced 17.

With Blackwood gone for a sixth man, Nick Moutrey sealed the win by putting the puck into an empty net at 19:26 (4-2).
