Barrie, Avs agree on deal

The big-money deals are not done in the NHL this off season.

On Sunday, Tyson Barrie of the Colorado Avalanche signed a four-year deal worth a reported $22 million.

Barrie and the Avs went to an arbitration hearing on Friday and at least one report suggested that Barrie was seeking a one-year deal at $6 million and the Avs countered with a two-year term.

“It’s really nice to get it done,” Barrie told the Denver Post on Sunday. “As you know, it was a bit of a process. Arbitration’s not fun to go through, but it’s part of the business, and I’m excited the Avalanche has shown faith in me. I’m happy to be part of this team for the next four years and try to be part of something special.”

The 25-year old Barrie had 13 goals and 49 points in 78 games last season and was a -16.

For the 2014-15 season, Barrie had 53 points and was a +5 80 games.

“It’s some security,” Barrie said. “It’s nice not to play for a deal every year. With that being said, I have a long way to go as a player, and I know that. There’s another level to my game that I’m looking to take it to and really become that next-level defenseman in this league. This deal represents that and it’s something I’m going to take pride in.”
