SAN JOSE, Calif. – The San Jose Barracuda hosted the Stockton Heat for game one of the first round and now lead the series 1-0 thanks to Troy Grosenick in the Barracuda net. Grosenick shutout the Heat 4-0.
Grosnick turned in a great game, and despite the 28 attempts by Stockton on the net, held strong.
Jon Gillies, recently returned to the Heat from Calgary earlier in the week, took home the loss with 42 saves.
San Jose’s Tim Heed scored an unassisted goal in the first period, when his one-timer beat Gillies high, glove side at 3:34.
Ryan Carpenter scored in the second period for the Barracuda, with a wrist shot. The assists were provided from Buddy Robinson and Joakim Ryan.
Carpenter scored his second goal of the night at 11:37 of the third period, when he caught a rebound in front of the net. The final goal was scored on an empty net from Kevin Lebanc from center ice.
The Heat, hoping for a different outcome, will return for game two on Sunday.
