Barracuda extend point streak to nine games in 2-1 overtime loss to Wild

DES MOINES, Iowa –  The San Jose Barracuda (18-10-4-3, 43pts) presented by Iowa WildBarracuda Networks extended their season best point streak to nine games (7-0-2-0) but dropped a 2-1 overtime decision to the host Iowa Wild (10-25-2-3, 25pts) in front of 12,455 fans at the Wells Fargo Arena on Saturday evening.  Barracuda Head coach Roy Sommer remained with 635 wins and looks to tie Fred “Bun” Cook (636 wins) for the most wins in AHL history on Monday when the Barracuda host the Bakersfield Condors at 1:15pm at the SAP Center.

Goaltender Aaron Dell (6-6-4) made 45 saves and Trevor Parkes scored the only goal as San Jose is now to 9-1-4-0 in their last 14 games.  Jordan Schroeder tied the game in the third period for the Wild and Gustav Olofsson won the game in overtime as Leland Irving made 25 saves in net for the home win. The Barracuda finished with a 2-0-1-0 on their three game road trip.

Neither team found the back of the net in the first period as Barracuda netminder Aaron Dell was called upon to make 17 saves in the opening period as San Jose was outshot 17-9. Rookie Patrick McNally (1st FM) picked up his first professional fighting major with a quick scrap at 10:17 against Brett Bulmer as we were scoreless through 20 minutes of play.

Trevor Parkes (7th) gave San Jose a 1-0 lead with a quick shot from a tough angle at the side of then net past goaltender Leland Irving at 2:46 of the second period assisted by Gus Young and Bryan Lerg.  Aaron Dell made 14 more saves in the second period as the Barracuda took a 1-0 lead into the second intermission.

Iowa tied the score at 4:23 as Jordan Schroeder (9th) scored on his 3rd rebound attempt in tight on the Barracuda.  Shots were 46-25 in favor of Iowa as the game headed to overtime tied 1-1.

The Wild won the game at 1:14 as defenseman Gustaf Olofsson deflected a leading pass over the shoulder of Dell to give the Wild just their 4th road win of the season.
