Barracuda come back twice to down Condors Smith scores in dying minutes of game to give Barracuda big win in Bakersfield

Bakersfield, CA – The San Jose Barracuda (23-17-6-3, 55pts) presented by Barracuda Networks beat the Bakersfield Condors (24-21-2-2, 52pts) by the score of 4-3 in front of 4,455 fans at Rabobank Arena on Friday night.

The Barracuda were down 2-0 with a little over a minute and a half at the end of the first when Ryan Carpenter got San Jose on the board with a goal on the power play. John McCarthy tied the game up midway through the second frame before the Condors put another one on the board. But the Barracuda answered two minutes later with a Trevor Parkes deflection. Ben Smith topped the comeback when he put away a rebound from McCarthy and Lerg.San Jose Barracuda logo

Bryan Lerg (0-2=2), John McCarthy (1-1=2), Ryan Carpenter (1-1=2) and Trevor Parkes (1-1=2) led the charge with two points a piece. Eight different Barracuda tallied points in a strong performance. Aaron Dell turned away 21 of 24 shots on target to earn the nod.

Bakersfield outshot San Jose 12-9 in the first period before San Jose took control and outshot the Condors 25-12 thereafter. Ryan Carpenter’s goal in the first period was the only special teams marker on the night.

Dillon Simpson (1-1=2) and Tyler Pitlick (1-1=2) put the Condors up by a two-goal lead a little over fourteen minutes into the first. The power-play goal by Carpenter (12th) at 18:27 of the first period seemed to spark the Barracuda for the rest of the night. Ben Smith drew a penalty in the waning moments of the first to give San Jose another power-play heading into the second. From there it was a back-and-forth battle with each team trading opportunities.
