SAN ANTONIO (Jan. 27, 2018) – Rudolfs Balcer’s three-point night propelled the San Jose Barracuda (20-17-1-2) to a 5-1 victory over the San Antonio Rampage (23-17-4-0) on Saturday at the AT&T Center.
San Jose struck first at 1:57 of the opening frame when Balcers beat netminder Spencer Martin with a backhanded shot for his ninth goal of the season. The remainder of the period went scoreless as the Barracuda took a 1-0 advantage into the first intermission.
The Barracuda registered their second goal of the game 23 seconds into the middle frame after Jacob Middleton fired a wrister from the blueline into the back of the cage. Emerson Clark extended the lead to three at 2:08 after connecting with Tim Clifton on a backdoor pass for his fourth goal of the season. Following Clark’s goal, the Rampage opted for a change in net as goaltender Ville Husso replaced Martin. Just over 16 minutes later, the Barracuda capitalized on a power-play opportunity at 18:11 when John McCarthy found Cavan Fitzgerald who lit the lamp to give San Jose a 4-0 advantage.
Balcers collected his second of the night at 5:04 of the final period when his shot deflected off the post and into the net. San Antonio ended the shutout at 15:23 when Trent Vogelhuber deflected Andrei Mironov’s shot behind San Jose goaltender Antoine Bibeau.
