SAN JOSE, Calif. – The San Jose Barracuda welcomed the Tucson Roadrunners in a preseason matchup at Sharks Ice. Preseason games are a chance for the coaches to see how players work together, and help them to make decisions on who stays and who gets sent down to ECHL or even released from training camp. Despite that, it’s still nice to win, right? In the first preseason match for these two teams, the Barracuda came out on top, with a 4-2 win.
Two of San Jose’s players earned three points during the game, including Marcus Sorenson’s hat trick and all three goals assisted by Nikita Jevpalovs. Sorenson’s goals came in the second and two in the third period.
Matt Willows scored the Barracuda opening goal, with less than two minutes remaining in the first period. His goal was answered 45 seconds later, when Henrik Samuelsson scored to leave it tied at one each at the first intermission.
Sorenson’s first goal came at the 8:02 mark in the second and was the lone goal. Only two minutes into the third period, he scored his second goal.
Tucson’s Kyle Wood scored at 11:57, when his shot went top shelf with an assist by Eric Selleck. Sorenson scored his hat trick goal, short-handed with just under seven minutes remaining.
The season begins on Friday, October 14, when the Roadrunners open on the road to face the San Diego Gulls. The Barracuda open on the road in Stockton facing the Heat.
These are a few of the best shots from the match.
