Barracuda battle back for 4-3 overtime win over Heat San Jose trailed 3-1 headed into third period

SAN JOSE, Calif  –The San Jose Barracuda (15-10-2-3, 35pts) presented by Barracuda Networks won their season high fourth straight game with a come from behind 4-3 overtime victory over the visiting Stockton Heat (12-14-1-2, 27pts) in front of 3,290 fans at the SAP Center on Wednesday evening.  The Barracuda four game home stand continues on Saturday, Jan 9 vs. the San Antonio Rampage at 8:30pm with the first 4,000 fans receiving a Evgeni Nabokov bobblehead.

Head coach Roy Sommer picked up win #632, trailing only Fred “Bun” Cook (636 wins) for the most wins in AHL history and goaltender Alex Stalock (2-0-0) made his second straight start with the Barracuda as he made 32 saves for his 80th AHL win of his San Jose Barracuda logocareer.  John McCarthy, Chris Tierney, and Barclay Goodrow scored in regulation for San Jose while Nikolay Goldobin won the game in overtime at 3:09 with a rebound scored.  The Barracuda trailed 3-1 headed into the third period as Morgan Klimchuk, Kenny Agostino, and Derek Grant gave Stockton the early lead as goaltender Kevin Poulin made 32 saves in net in the loss.

Stockton grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first period as Morgan Klimchuk (2nd) fired home a loose puck from on top of the Barracuda crease at 4:24 and Kenny Agostino (7th) finished off a 2-on-1 rush at 19:11.  San Jose went 0-3 on the power play as Stockton held a 12-10 shot advantage through 20 minutes of play.

San Jose had a goal disallowed after a terrific move by Trevor Parkes early in the second period as the score remained 2-0 Heat until John McCarthy (4th) got the Barracuda on the board with a wicked wrist shot from the right circle that sailed past the glove of goaltender Kevin Poulin at 12:09.  Bryan Lerg and Julius Bergman assisted on the Barracuda goal. Derek Grant (15th) banked a rebound off Alex Stalock from behind the goal line less than two minutes later at 13:53 to put Stockton ahead 3-1 after 40 minutes of play.  Stockton outshot San Jose 26-17 through two periods.

The Barracuda came out flying in the third period and scored twice to force overtime.  Chris Tierney (1st) sent a shot through the pads of Kevin Poulin at 2:01 after a nice feed by Jeremy Langlois.  San Jose tied the game on the power play with the extra attacker as Barclay Goodrow (13th) fired the puck from the right wall and it deflected off a Heat defender and into the net at 19:24 to force overtime.  San Jose outshot Stockton 16-9 in the third period.

In overtime, the Barracuda had three breakaways that were stopped by Kevin Poulin but a rebound scored by Nikolay Goldobin (10th) at 3:09 gave San Jose their 4th straight win and a 4-3 home victory.
