TOLEDO, Ohio – Tyler Barnes scored 4:30 into overtime to lead the Walleye to a 5-4 win Tuesday night in Toledo. The best of seven series is tied at three with game seven Wednesday night at the Huntington Center.
South Carolina took the lead as Wayne Simpson beat Neil Conway with a wrist shot at 3:21 of the first period. It went to 2-0 Stingrays when Andrew Rowe snuck a shot past Conway at 10:57. Toledo chipped away at the lead when Shane Berschbach (8th) tapped in the first Walleye goal of the night at 12:17. A.J. Jenks (5th) pounced on a rebound and tied the game with a backhand at 18:13.
Toledo took it’s first of the lead of the night with a Kyle Bonis wrist shot at 3:05 for his 9th goal of the playoffs. South Carolina tied the score with a Joe Devin goal at 6:56. Alden Hirschfeld scored his first goal of the playoffs at 7:53 when he threw a rebound past South Carolina goaltender Jeff Jakaitis and the Walleye led 4-3 after two periods.
Devin scored his second goal of the game at 5:15 of the third period to send the game into overtime. Scott Czarnowczan slid a pass ahead to Tyler Barnes (8th) at 4:30 of OT and Barnes went backhand to send the 6,021 at the Huntington Center into a frenzy.
Walleye Notes: Goaltender Neil Conway made 28 saves on 32 shots and has a record of 4-2 in the playoffs. Toledo is the third team in ECHL history to force a Game Seven when trailing a series three games to none. The last was Cincinnati in 2010 when they defeated Reading in seven games.
