The Vancouver Canucks traveled to Detroit Sunday night in the only match on the schedule and skated off with a 4-1 win over the Red Wings.
Sven Baertschi struck for two goals.
“I’ve had a lot of chances in the last few games, so it felt good to finally put one in,” Baertschi said. “Getting a second one made it even better.”
Jacob Markstrom made 20 saves to backstop the Vancouver offense for the win.
Anthony Manthahad the lone goal for the Red Wings who dropped to 4-4-1 on the season.
“This was a bad game,” Red Wings captain Henrik Zetterberg said. “We weren’t crisp, and we didn’t execute. We have to be way better than this.”
Detroit has lost lost four straight with a 0-3-1 record over the skid.
Derek Dorsett and Jake Virtanenalso scored for the Canucks in the win.
Detroit was sluggish throughout the game but the first period was particularly glaring.
“I didn’t think we played with much emotion in the first period, and then we came out for the second period and laid an absolute egg,” Red Wings coach Jeff Blashill said.
The Wings were out shot, 18-6, in the middle frame.

Jimmy Howard made 33stops in taking the loss.
“It was a brutal effort. We should be embarrassed by ourselves, from me at the top all the way on down,” Blashill said of his team’s effort after the loss.
