Backman Grabs Lone Goal in Loss to Roadrunners

Tucson, AZ – The Ontario Reign (19-9-6-0) scored early in the second period, but the Tucson Roadrunners (20-9-4-0) scored four unanswered goals en route to a 4-1 victory at Tucson Arena Tuesday night. With the loss, the Reign slip from first to third place in the Pacific Division.

Game Summary

Reign forward Sean Backman broke the scoreless tie 52 seconds into the second period blasting a shot from the right point past the stick of Roadrunners netminder Justin Peters (W, 22 saves on 23 shots). Defenseman Alex Lintuniemi added the only assist. The Roadrunners responded midway through the frame as forward Mark Olver batted in a loose puck past goalie Jack Campbell (L, 20 saves on 23 shots) at 12:31.

The Roadrunners went up for good at 9:35 of the third period as Olver buried his second goal of the game. Roadrunners forward Hunter Fejes picked up his first AHL goal on a breakaway mark at 14:16 and forward Christian Fischer sealed the victory with an empty-net goal at 19:54.
