CEDAR PARK, Texas – Texas defeated the Barons 3-0 on Saturday night in front of 5,738 at Cedar Park Center. Texas Stars goalie Richard Bachman (18-10-2) made 30 saves for the win, posting his fourth shutout of the year. Stars’ left wing Ondrej Roman scored two goals minutes apart in the first period to give the Stars an early 2-0 that the team never surrendered. Left wing Brandon Segal had a goal and an assist, as the Stars improved to 14-7-3-2 at home this season. Oklahoma City goalie Martin Gerber (17-11-3) stopped 29 of 32 shots in the loss.
Texas took an early 1-0 lead at 6:53 of the first period with a power-play goal by left wing Ondrej Roman. Forwards Greg Rallo and Brandon Segal each provided an assist on the goal. The Stars struck again less than two minutes later at 8:24, with Roman scoring his second goal on the night. Defenseman Jordie Benn and right wing Tomas Vincour both set up the goal to extend Texas’ lead to 2-0.
After a scoreless second period, Texas left wing Brandon Segal slipped the puck past Martin Gerber at 7:52 of the third period. Segal’s third goal of the season went unassisted as Texas secured a 3-0 final.
Prior to the game, the Texas Stars signed left wing Mark Derlago to a PTO (professional tryout agreement). Derlago has appeared in 48 games for the Idaho Steelheads this season, leading the team with 25 goals and 28 assists for a team-high 53 points. Last season, the 25-year old again led the team in goals, assists and points (42g-50a-92) in 60 games for Idaho, finishing fourth in the ECHL for points and tied for third in goals. Before joining the Steelheads, Derlago played for the Bakersfield Condors from 2007-09. The Brandon, MB native led the Condors in goals scored during his time in Bakersfield, scoring 32 his rookie year and 39 in his sophomore season. Derlago made his AHL season debut and Texas debut on Saturday night against Oklahoma City.
