Away to the Kingdom on Sunday night

We are in Fife on Sunday evening as the festive fixtures come to a close. But don’t worry- there are another 10 coming up over New Year!

Fife handed debuts to Milan Lucic and David Booth on Boxing Day in Belfast, but that was about as good as it got for the Scottish side as they were thrashed 9-0 by the rampant Giants.

That victory kept Belfast in fourth, but results elsewhere mean that they would be level for second if they win their four games in hand on Nottingham and Sheffield, and top if they win all five to go above Cardiff.

Fife remain rooted to the foot of the league, although they are just two points behind Dundee.

Of the 34 Elite League games played on 28 December in history, only 15 have been won by home teams. Road sides have taken 18 wins, while Nottingham and Coventry tied back in 2004. Fife faced Dundee at home on this date in 2013 and 2019, and were beaten 4-1 both times. Belfast were victorious on this date in 2008 in Hull, and in 2013 and 2019 in Braehead. They were beaten by Clan in 2014.
