In Boston, David Pastrnak hit for a double and three points in a Monday matinee with the Colorado Avalanche. The Bruins downed the Avs, 5-1, and ended their seven-game road winning streak.
“I think it was the best game of this year, if we’re talking about the full game and 60 minutes,” Pastrnak said. “We just stayed in the moment. We were really energized, and it was a great win for us. A big two points.”
Jeremy Swayman made 28 saves in the Boston win.
“It was pretty special [to start],” Swayman said. “I don’t know if you guys know, but I had a year in Colorado, during my U-18 year. So it was kind of a dream to play against the [Avalanche] one day, and definitely beat them, so that was fun. I love being in net and being able to get points for this team. It’s a good day, and we’re happy with the win.”
Nathan MacKinnon was the lone striker for the Avs.
“We came back on them at home (to win 4-3 in overtime Jan. 26) after they got a lead, and sort of turned the table in the game,” Colorado head coach Jared Bednar said. “I was hoping we were going to go do that after we got that one to make it 2-1. It felt like our bench came alive and we were going to push for it. I was hoping to come out of that period 2-2 and make a strong push in the third after weathering the storm, especially the first. That didn’t happen tonight.”
The Bruins moved to 29-17-4.
Pastrnak and Patrice Bergeron combined to give the Bruins a 2-0 lead into the second period.
Colorado fell to 36-10-4.
“We were a little bit sloppy coming out of our zone, and then that kind of translates to the neutral zone and obviously to the offensive zone as well,” the Avalanche’s Gabriel Landeskog said. “They were good tonight. We weren’t on our ‘A’ game. When you have one team that plays their best and one team that doesn’t, then it’s going to be lopsided at the end of the day. We know we’re a better team than we showed tonight. We’ll get back on track here Wednesday.”
After MacKinnon scored, the Bruins scored twice with Pastrnak potting his second of the match, and Jake DeBrusk pushing the lead to 4-1.
“Sometimes you just need to get one to kind of flush whatever happened before,” Pastrnak said. “I felt good going into the game, I love afternoon games. The goal the other day (against the Ottawa Senators on Feb. 19) helped me. I had been fighting it lately, so it’s a good bounce back.”
Charlie Coyle scored off the power play early in the third period to get the 5-1 final.p
Darcy Kuemper made 40 saves in the Colorado loss.
