On Home ice, the Anaheim Ducks could not hold a 3-1 lead they built in the middle frame as they watched the Colorado Avalanche strike for three goals in a 4-3 overtime loss.
Mikko Rantanen completed the Avs rally when he score4d with 1.3 seconds left in the extra session for game-winner.
“We kind of felt like we had more to give going into the third period. We come up with a big power-play goal at the end of the second to get within striking distance, then came out and won the third. It took the full 60 minutes,” Avs head coach Jared Bednar said.
Sven Andrighetto, Nathan MacKinnon and Gabriel Landeskog scored for Colorado in regulation.
“They got on us, and we didn’t execute quite to the same level in the last half of the game as we did in the first half,” Ducks head coach Randy Carlyle said.
Philipp Grubauer made 30 saves to get the Avs the win as they improved to 10-6-4.
“We knew we had a lot of gas in the tank,” Rantanen said. “We knew we were going to out play them in the third and I think that’s what we did.”
Brandon Montour, Ryan Getzlaf and Ondrej Kase scored for the Ducks.
“Last couple of games, we’ve been generating more shots,” Montour said. “Three goals wasn’t enough, but it was nice we got a couple.”
Anaheim dropped to 8-9-5.

Ryan Miller made 38 saves in the loss.
“We’re going to have to rely on more people to elevate and play more minutes than they’ve been accustomed. That’s an example of [Montour] getting his feet underneath him and making contributions on both the defensive side and offensive side,” Carlyle said after the loss.
