In Denver, Gabriel Landeskog scored with 37 seconds left in regulation to get the Colorado Avalanche even with the Boston Bruins, 3-3, and force over time on Wednesday night.
Cal Makar ended the game with a strike in the extra session for the win, 4-3, and extend the Avs home win streak to 17 games.
“[He] (Landeskog) made a great screen in front and I saw an opening and decided to shoot it,” Makar said.
Darcey Kuemper made 29 saves in the Avs win.
“You’re trying to extend the streak you got going,” Avalanche head coach Jared Bednar said. “Guys don’t want to lose. We were committed to our team game tonight against a really good team. To be able to stick with it, it’s the belief. That’s our biggest win of the year.”
Colorado moved to 30-8-3.
Nathan MacKinnon was injured in the first period during a hit by Boston’s Taylor Hall.
“Not good enough to return to the game, so we’ll see what tomorrow presents,” Bednar said. “I had a chance to review it and the way he catches him, Nate’s stick was up, so I believe they probably made the right call, but it’s the type of hit the league’s trying to get rid of.”
Brad Marchand, Charlie Coyle, and Jake DeBrusk scored for Boston.
“You’ve got to keep playing hockey,” Bruins head coach Bruce Cassidy said. “You’ve got to keep playing. We’re usually pretty good at that. We didn’t get it done and we paid the price.”
Boston fell to 24-13-3.
“They’re a good team for a reason,” Coyle said. “They’re not just going to sit back and let us have that in the third. I think we expected a push. We wanted to keep playing the same way. They came hard and it’s unfortunate. Linus played such a great game and he deserved better from us in that third.”
Linus Ullmark made 37 saves in the Bruins loss.
