In Las Vegas, the Colorado Avalanche broke through on a goal from Nazem Kadri with 41 seconds let in regulation to give the Avs a 3-2 win over the Golden Knights on Tuesday night.
“First and foremost, just try to win the face-off,” Kadri said. “We just tried to keep it simple. [We] told the [defensemen] to get the puck and we just hopped on the rebound.”
Philipp Grubauer made 27 saves to get the win.
Max Pacioretty and Jonathan Marchessault were the Vegas strikers.
“Against a team like that you’re not going to get a lot of opportunities,” Pacioretty said. “I thought [the third period] was our best 5-on-5 in a while.”
The loss dropped Vegas to 10-3-1.
“I really liked our effort tonight. Three games in four nights,” Vegas head coach Peter DeBoer said. “I liked that the second and third periods were our best periods. I think the guys dug deep and pushed through.”
Nathan MacKinnon and Brandon Saad also scored for the Avs who improved to 8-4-1.
“We found a way to get the job done,” Avs head coach Jared Bednar said. “We’ll take the two points and run.”
Marc-Andre Fleury made 22 saves in the loss.
