In Los Angeles, hilipp Grubauer made 23 saves and the Colorado Avalanche defeated the Kings, 3-2, on Tuesday night.
Andreas Athanasiou and Adrian Kempe (power play) scored for the Kings who dropped to 0-1-2..
“We’ve had stretches where we’ve played good hockey. Even strength we can play with anyone, but it is about staying disciplined,” Athanasiou said.
Devon Toews and Mikko Rantanen scored power play goals for the Avs.
Brandon Saad also scored for Colorado who had a 3-0 lead before the Kings rallied to close within one.
Nathan MacKinnon had two assists on the night to reach his 500th NHL point.
“Oh, he’s a great player,” Saad said. “Like you said, I’ve played with a lot of good players, but Nate’s one of the best players in the League. You can see it with his work ethic on and off the ice. I knew it just from playing against him, but to be around him every day, he’s a special player, a special guy, so I’m happy to be a part of this team.”
Calvin Petersen made 21 saves in the loss.
“There’s not a magic wand with penalties other than taking responsibility,” Kings head coach Todd McLellan said. “When you give up six power plays, eventually a couple are going to get in.”
