In Detroit, Michael Hutchinson made his debut with the Colorado Avalanche on Monday night and 17 saves in a 2-1 win over the Red Wings.
“That was great. It was a lot of fun out there,” Hutchinson said. “The guys played extremely hard in front of me. That was definitely the best birthday present you can ask for.”
The Avs continue on with a variety of injured players, much like any MASH unit would.
“I don’t even try to explain it; we just have guys stepping up all the time,” Avalanche head coach Jared Bednar said. “Everyone is playing hard, because they want to keep this going. We know every point is valuable right now and we want to get them.”
Anthony Mantha was the lone goal scorer for the Wings.
“I liked our compete level and I liked the way we stuck together and battled,” Detroit’s Dylan Larkin said. “That could have gone either way.”
Vladislav Namestnikov and Logan O’Connor were the Avs’ strikers.
“It might not have been our best game, but it was the last game of a road trip and we got the job done,” the Avs’ Mark Barberio said. “We’ve got three straight wins on the road, and that means we’re going home with a lot of confidence.”

Jonathan Bernier made 25 saves in the loss.
“I had a couple chances in the second period that I really wish I could get back,” Mantha said. “I thought we played really well, but we just didn’t get many chances.”
