In Anaheim, the visiting Colorado Avalanche needed overtime to to step aside a pesky Ducks effort on Friday.
Gabriel Landeskog scored at 1:38 of the extra session after skating behind the Ducks cage and wrapping the puck into the net.
“I definitely wasn’t happy with my first shot. I have to be able to raise the puck there,” Landeskog said. “I was able to stay with it, and I saw Gibson was out of his crease a little bit, so I just tried to stuff it as fast as I could. Good feeling to score an OT winner, no doubt.”
Philipp Grubauer made 36 saves in the win.
“Tonight, I didn’t think we deserved to win, but Grubauer was outstanding,” Avs head coach Jared Bednar said.
Hampus Lindholm and Adam Henrique were the Anaheim strikers.
“Our execution got better as the game went on,” Ducks head coach Dallas Eakins said. “We just need a little bit more finish now.”
The Ducks were 0-for-5 on the power play.
Mikko Rantanen and Joonas Donskoi scored in regulation for the Avs.
John Gibson made 29 saves in the loss.
