COLUMBUS – On his return from recovering from a concussion, Matt Duchene scored in extra time to help the Colorado Avalanche defeat the Columbus Blue Jackets, 3-2.
“That’s what elite players do — seize the moment and make big plays,” Avalanche coach Jared Bednar said.
Erik Johnson had the primary assist on the game-winner.
“When you have good players like that and they’re open, you just have to put it on their stick and they’ll put it in,” Johnson said.
Johnson had a goal in regulation as did Tyson Barrie for Colorado in regulation.
Semyon Varlamov who got the win was busy all game and made 40 saves for the win.
“We didn’t play our best game, but we found a way to come up with a big period, the second period,” Bednar said after the game.
Columbus got two goals from Cam Atkinson; Curtis McElhinney made 24 saves in the loss.
