Aviators sink Danbury, 4-2

BROOKLYN, New York – The Brooklyn Aviators snapped a two game winless skid with a 4-2 victory over the Danbury Whalers on Friday night in Federal Hockey League action at the Aviator Sports and Events Center.

Chris Ferazzoli led the way offensively for Brooklyn with two power play goals.

The Aviators jumped out to the early 1-0 lead in the first period on Anthony Iaquinto’s fourth goal of the season.   KC Timmons let a shot go from the point and the rebound kicked out to Iaquinto at the bottom of the left wing circle.   The rookie buried the loose puck into back of the net at the 9:48 mark.   Danbury though tied it up, 1-1, late in the opening frame after Kelly Miller’s shorthanded marker.   Miller went in on a breakaway and lifted a backhand shot over the right pad of Aviators’ netminder, Jo St. Pierre with 5:55 left in the first.

Danbury would take a 2-1 edge to start the second period on Alec Kirschner’s fourth tally of the year.   Kirschner stripped the puck from Ferazzoli inside the A’s zone and snapped the puck under the right arm of St. Pierre.   Brooklyn answered back with two straight goals from Ferazzoli, a power play marker, and Andrew Owsiak to give the A’s the lead back at 3-2.

Ferazzoli doubled-up the A’s lead late in the third period on his second goal of the game, also on the power player, which iced the victory for Brooklyn, 4-2.

St. Pierre made 33 stops to earn his second win in an Aviator uniform, while Whaler’s goalie Pete Vetri turned aside 29 shots in the loss.

Brooklyn returns home to the Aviator Sports and Events Center on Saturday night when they welcome in the 1000 Islands Privateers.
