Avalanche re-sign Adam Foote

DENVER , Colo – The Colorado Avalanche have announced veteran blue liner Adam Foote, 38, has signed a 1 year extension with the club.

Foote, a veteran of over 1,100 NHL games, has spent the bulk of his career with the franchise after making his debut for the Quebec Nordiques in 1991. Foote then followed the team to Denver when it relocated in 1995. The hulking D man won two Stanley Cups with the Avalanche before signing as a free agent with Columbus following the 2004/2005 NHL lock out.

After 3 seasons in Ohio, Foote was traded back to the Avalanche in February 2008 and made Team Captain ahead of the 2009/2010 season, following the retirement of Joe Sakic.

Known as a hard working, hard hitting defenceman, Foote’s influence over the young Avs during this season helped the club rebound from its worst finish since arriving in the Mile High City to clinch the 8th play-off spot in the West. While the Avs were knocked out by San Jose in round 1, Foote was able to help rookie sensation Matt Duchene in particular when it came to making the jump from junior to the NHL. Duchene moved in with Foote and his family ahead of the season, and under the experienced defencemans wing went on to lead all rookies with 55 points this season.
