Whalers ground Aviators, 3-1

BROOKLYN, New York – The Brooklyn Aviators had their three-game winning streak snapped on Friday night as they dropped the contest 3-1 to the Danbury Whalers at the Aviator Sports and Events Center in Federal Hockey League action.
 
Whalers’ goaltender Peter Vetri stopped all but one shot he faced to lead Danbury over Brooklyn for the fourth time this season.
 
Danbury jumped out to the 1-0 lead after the first period of play on Matt Caranci’s ninth goal of the season.   Linemate Jay Meloff fed Caranci behind the net with the puck, which Caranci then slipped under the left pad of A’s netminder Jo St. Pierre at the 8:53 mark for the one goal edge.
 
Alec Kirschner would tally the only goal in the second frame to give the Whalers a 2-0 lead after two frames of play.  With Danbury on the power play, James Sanford fed a streaking Kirschner backdoor with a pass.   Kirschner then deflected the puck past St. Pierre for his 23rd marker of the year at the 11:45 mark.
 
Danbury took a 3-0 lead halfway through the third period after Andrew Willock redirected Devin Guy’s shot in front minutes before Jason Dolgy registered Brooklyn’s first goal of the night, however the Aviators late rally just fell a bit short.
 
Vetri earned the win stopping 42 of 43 shots, while St. Pierre is charged with the loss making 21 saves.
 
The Aviators return to action next Friday night when they take on the Akwesasne Warriors at the Turtle Dome in Akwesasne, ONT for a two-game set.

Aviators buzz Akwesasne, 8-3

BROOKLYN, NY – The Brooklyn Aviators extended their winning streak to five after an 8-3 victory over the Akwesasne Warriors at the Aviator Sports and Events Center in Federal Hockey League action.
 
Lucas Schott and Casey Mignone each had two goals on the night, while the A’s power-play went 6-for-10 to help fuel the offense.
 
Brooklyn jumped out to a 3-0 lead over Akwesasne after the first period of play behind Schott’s two power-play goals.  Schott put the Aviators on the board, 1-0, at the 7:50 mark after his wrister beat Warriors’ netminder Adam Thompson from the right-wing circle.  Mignone doubled Brooklyn’s lead, 2-0, with 5:15 left on a wraparound goal for his second marker in as many games.  Schott added another power-play tally at the 15:53 spot on a beautiful redirection in front of new Akwesasne goalie David Plouffe to give the Aviators a three-goal edge.
 
Pierre Dagenias opened the scoring in the second period with two goals just 1:38 apart to cut into the Aviators lead at 3-2.  Brooklyn though, answered with three straight markers to take a 6-2 lead into the second intermission.  Nick Petriello tallied an even strength marker at the 3:37 mark to regain the A’s two-goal lead on his fourth of the year.  Jesse Felten and Henry Coxe then cashed in on the power-play later in the frame that put Brooklyn up 6-2 over Akwesasne.
 
In the third period, Mignone added his second of the night on the power-play, along with Ken Trentowski, to ice the victory for the Aviators 8-3.
 
Jo St. Pierre picked up his eighth win for the Aviators stopping 26 shots, while Thompson is charged with the loss for Akwesasne.

Aviators win fourth straight, 5-2

LEWISTON, Maine – The Brooklyn Aviators picked up their fourth straight win with a 5-2 victory over the 1000 Island Privateers on Thursday night in the Maine Event at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee in Federal Hockey League action.
 
Andrew Owsiak chipped in with three assists while five different A’s tallied in the win for Brooklyn.
 
Brooklyn jumped to an early 2-0 lead over 1000 Islands halfway through the opening period.  Joe Dabkowski registered his first goal in an Aviators uniform at the 9:34 mark. 
Dabkowski broke in on Privateers goalie Matt Anthony and slipped the puck past the netminder to put Brooklyn on top 1-0. 
 
Steve Koich doubled the A’s lead after his shorthanded tally found the back of the net 2:34 later.  Koich broke up a pass at the Brooklyn blueline, skated the length of the ice and put the pack past Anthony on the backhand for the 2-0 edge.  The Privateers cut the deficit to 2-1 with just 13-seconds left on Brad Townsend’s fourth marker of the year.
 
Casey Mignone would give the Aviators a 3-1 lead 6:08 into the second period on his 13th goal of the season, after his wrister beat Anthony high over the glove along the right side.  Late in the frame, Aviators rookie forward Matt Atsoff put the A’s up 4-1 as his shot slid under Anthony from the left wing circle with 5:16 left in the second.  Michael Byrd tallied on a breakaway for the Privateers 1:10 later to cut into the Aviators lead at 4-2.
 
Brendan Baumgartner iced it late for the Aviators with a power play goal, his fourth of the season, to seal the victory for Brooklyn 5-2.
 
Aviators’ netminder Jo St. Pierre earned the win making 36 saves, while Anthony is charged with the loss despite putting aside 37 shots.
 
The Aviators return to action tomorrow night when they take on the visiting Akwesasne Warriors at the Aviator Sports and Events Center.

Aviators buzz Cape Cod, 3-1

HYANNIAS, Mass. – The Brooklyn Aviators defeated the Cape Cod Bluefins 3-1 on Saturday night at the Hyannis Youth and Community Center in Federal Hockey League action. Aviators’ netminder Jo St. Pierre picked up his second win, in as many nights, after stopping 29 of 30 Cape Cod shots. Jesse Felten put the Aviators on the board, 1-0, 4:24 into the first period on a beautiful play in front started by Lucas Schott and Chase Watson, who each picked up their fifth point in two games with the assists.  Andrew Hutton quickly found the equalizer for the Bluefins 1:03 later after putting home a rebound past St. Pierre.  Matt Atsoff would then give Brooklyn a 2-1 edge on is 11th marker of the year with 3:10 left to go in the opening frame. The red light did not go on in the second period, as both clubs were unable to produce any scoring.  Both goalies were helped by the goal posts, but it was Brooklyn skating into the second intermission with the 2-1 lead. Brooklyn doubled their edge late in the third period on KC Timmons’ power play marker at the 17:23 mark.  Timmons let a blast go from the center point that got past Bluefins goalie Wes Vesprini  putting the A’s up 3-1.
Vesprini is charged with the loss despite making 28 saves. The Aviators return to action on Thursday night when they take on the 1000 Islands Privateers in the MAINE Event at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee in Lewiston, ME.

Outlaws thump Brooklyn, 7-4

BROOKLYN, New York – The Brooklyn Aviators dropped their fourth straight game to kick off the New Year as they fell to the New Jersey Outlaws 7-3 on home ice in Federal Hockey League action.   Nathan Oke and Lawne Snyder each had three points on the contest to help pace the Outlaws offense in the victory.
 
New Jersey erupted for the game’s first four goals, with two coming on the power play, to take a commanding 4-1 lead after the first period of play. Oke opened the scoring 2:06 into the opening frame, and then 48-seconds later newcomer Trevor Karasiewicz found the back of the net to give New Jersey a 2-0 edge. Kevin Cooper and John Goffredo tallied for the Outlaws – making it four straight markers – before Lucas Schott scored on the man advantage for Brooklyn with 2:29 left in the first.
Matt Miller netted the only goal in the second frame at the 18:10 mark on his own rebound from Snyder and Karasiewicz giving New Jersey a 5-1 lead.
Brooklyn scored two goals in a span of 39-seconds to kick start the third period, which cut the deficit to 5-3, off tallies from Chase Watson and Nick Petriello. New Jersey though, netted two their own, one early and one later, to seal the 7-3 victory.
Aviators’ netminder Jo St. Pierre is charged with the loss despite turning aside 26 shots, while Outlaws’ goalie Adam Dekker picks up his 12th win making 21 saves.

Privateers use 4-goal outburst to push past Brooklyn

ALEXANDRIA BAY, New York – A four-goal third period sparked a huge comeback for the 1000 Islands Privateers as they knocked off the Brooklyn Aviators 6-4 at the Bonnie Castle Rec Center in Federal Hockey League Action.
 
Adam McCallister tallied the game-winning goal for the Privateers with just 1:32 left in the contest after 1000 Islands trailed 4-2 in the third period.
 
1000 Islands wasted little time getting on the scoreboard in the first period as Justin Levac gave his squad the 1-0 lead just 1:02 in.  With the Privateers on the power play, Brad Smulders – who had two points for 1000 Islands last night – found Levac on the doorstep and fed him with a pass that was tapped in for a goal.
 
Nick Grove though, tied it for Brooklyn, 1-1, at the 9:23 mark after his shot beat Privateers’ netminder Matt Anthony.  Brooklyn forward Luke Schott fed Grove with a pass at the right point and his blast fought through the traffic for his first goal of the year.
 
Brooklyn took a 2-1 edge at the 8:11 spot of the second period on Schott’s power play goal.  Chad Bazin went to the box for an interference call to give Brooklyn their third man advantage of the game.  A’s defenseman KC Timmons let a shot go from the right point and Schott picked up the loose puck, after two great rebound saves by Anthony, and roofed it for his third goal of the year.
 
Mike Richard tied the game for the Privateers on the power play 2:32 later, however Matt Atsoff put home a loose puck behind Anthony with 7:38 left in the middle frame for his 10th goal of the campaign.
 
Jesse Felten doubled the A’s lead, 4-2, at the 3:35 mark of the third period on his short-handed tally, which came on a 5-3 on penalty kill.  Grove feed Felten with a pass that sent him on a breakaway and snapped it under the glove of Anthony for his 13th goal of the season.  Mike Byrd and Brad Smulders would get the next two late in the frame for 1000 Islands to tie the game at 4-4.
 
Jeremy Akeson sealed it with an empty netter for the Privateers.
 
Anthony picks up back-to-back wins after stopping 29 Brooklyn shots, while A’s netminder Pete Dundovich turned aside 32 in the losing effort.
 
The Aviators return to action on Wednesday night when they travel to Hyannis, MA to take on the Cape Cod Bluefins.
