Offense eludes Ice Flyers in 2-0 loss to Bulls

PENSACOLA, FLA. – The Ice Flyers were unable to find the equalizer in the 30th Anniversary of Pensacola Hockey Tribute Game, falling 2-0 to the Birmingham Bulls on Saturday night at the Hangar.

After a scoreless first period, Birmingham broke through late in the second when Drake Glover opened the scoring to give the Bulls a 1-0 lead heading into the final frame. Pensacola pushed to get back even in the third, but could not solve Birmingham down the stretch.

With the Ice Flyers net empty in the closing moments, Kolten Olynek buried an empty-netter in the final seconds to seal the 2-0 result.

Pensacola will regroup and turn the page as the team prepares for a road trip next weekend to face the top-seeded Peoria Rivermen.

Bulls ground Ice Flyers, 4-1

PENSACOLA, FLA. – The Ice Flyers fell 4-1 to the Birmingham Bulls on Dino Race Night, presented by Xtream, presented by Mediacom, at the Hangar.

Birmingham opened the scoring when Kyren Gronick found the back of the net, but Pensacola answered quickly as Nicholas Aromatario tied the game at 1-1 heading into the second period. The Bulls regained the lead on the power play when Drake Glover scored after Ethan Price was whistled for a slashing penalty. The Ice Flyers were unable to even things up in the middle frame and went into the third trailing by one.

Birmingham added insurance midway through the third as Jonathan Bartuccio-Pereira extended the lead, and CJ Walker sealed it with an empty-net goal to make it 4-1 as the Bulls came away with the win.

The two teams will meet again tomorrow to wrap up the weekend series during the 30th Anniversary of Pensacola Hockey Celebration.

Ice Flyers’ offense remains stalled in 2-1 loss to Ice Bears

PENSACOLA, FLA. – The Ice Flyers fell 2-1 to the Knoxville Ice Bears in overtime on Saturday night at the Hangar in front of 6,253 fans.

The game remained scoreless through the first period, with both goaltenders keeping things tight. Knoxville broke through in the second period when Carson Vance scored to give the Ice Bears a 1-0 lead. The Ice Flyers battled back, and the deadlock finally broke in the final minutes of the third period when Sam Rhodes tied things up, rejuvenating the crowd and breathing some life into the home team.

The game would go on to overtime, where Cam Gaudette ended up with another costly penalty with a holding call that set up Knoxville’s Tim Kent for a powerplay goal, giving the Ice Bears a 2-1 victory.

The Ice Flyers now head to Knoxville for another set of games before coming home for Lilo and Stitch Night on Sunday, February 15.

Ice Flyers can’t get equalizer in 1-0 loss to Knoxville

PENSACOLA, FLA. – The Ice Flyers fell 1-0 to the Knoxville Ice Bears on Adult Jersey Giveaway Night presented by Kia Autosport of Pensacola at the Hangar.

The first period was evenly matched and remained scoreless, with the Ice Flyers outshooting the Ice Bears 13-9. Knoxville’s Stephan Mundinger and the Ice Flyers’ netminder Billy Gerard IV both made their fair share of saves in the opening frame.

The Ice Bears broke the scoreless deadlock in the second period when Jimmy Soper found the back of the net, giving Knoxville a 1-0 lead. They held that advantage for the remainder of the period.

Despite a late third-period powerplay opportunity, the Ice Flyers were unable to tie things up. The team will regroup for tomorrow’s rematch against the Ice Bears.

Ice Flyers respond with 4-3 over Marksmen

PENSACOLA, FLA. – The Ice Flyers bounced back in spectacular fashion on Saturday night, defeating the Fayetteville Marksmen 4-3 in front of a roaring crowd of 7,090 at the Hangar for Mardi Gras Night presented by Pensacola Mardi Gras.

The Marksmen struck first when former Ice Flyer Sam Dabrowski opened the scoring. Captain Ethan Price responded midway through the first period, tying the game 1-1 heading into the first intermission. Marcus Fechko gave Fayetteville the lead with the lone goal of the second period, putting the Ice Flyers in a 2-1 hole entering the final frame.

The third period belonged to Pensacola. Mike Moran, Zack Bross, and Tim Faulkner each found the back of the net, propelling the Ice Flyers to a 4-2 lead. Trey Fechko brought the Marksmen within one at 4-3, but the Ice Flyers held strong to secure the victory and avenge Friday night’s loss.

The Ice Flyers return to action next week for Adult Jersey Giveaway Night presented by Kia Autosport of Pensacola and Military Appreciation Night presented by Hilly Kelly.

Marksmen sharper in 8-6 win over Ice Flyers

PENSACOLA, FLA. – The Ice Flyers hosted the Fayetteville Marksmen on Friday night for 80’s Night, but despite a thrilling comeback attempt, fell short in a high-scoring affair, losing 8-6 to the visiting Marksmen.

The game got off to a fiery start with former Ice Flyer Sam Dabrowski and Samson Mouland dropping the gloves, energizing the crowd at the Hangar. Fayetteville wasted no time getting on the board, with Trey Fechko scoring early. Marcus Fechko extended the Marksmen’s lead to 2-0 at the 9-minute mark. Tyler Burnie cut the deficit to one for the Ice Flyers, but Marcus Fechko notched his second of the night, giving Fayetteville a 3-1 lead heading into the first intermission.

The Ice Flyers came out firing in the second period, with Captain Ethan Price scoring just seconds in. Ryan Leith answered back for Fayetteville, but the remainder of the frame belonged to Pensacola. Sam Rhodes tallied two goals, Tyrone Bronte found the back of the net, and Captain Price closed out the period with his second of the night, giving the Ice Flyers a 6-4 lead heading into the final frame.

Despite their comeback, the Marksmen seized control in the third period. Matt Wiesner scored twice, while Shane Murphy and Sam Dabrowski each added goals, propelling Fayetteville to an 8-6 victory.

The Ice Flyers are back in action tomorrow night for Mardi Gras Night presented by Pensacola Mardi Gras.
