Attack Show Resolve in Overtime Win over Spitfires

Captain Clutch! Colby Barlow blasted home the overtime winner just 1:18 into the extra frame, as he helped propel the Owen Sound Attack to a big 5-4 win over the visiting Windsor Spitfires Saturday night.

It was a game that you want to show every new hockey fan, as the top two teams in the Western Conference battled it out at the Bayshore. The speed was electric, as the Attack made sure to establish their team speed early, causing the visiting Spitfires to play on their heels.

After coming off a combined six point night in Kitchener on Friday, the Attack’s top line of Barlow, Cedrick Guindon and Servac Petrovsky, once again led the team, putting up eight points, with all three players being included on the game winning goal.

Though controlling majority of the play in the opening frame, it was Mathias Onuska in the Windsor net who looked as though he may steal the show, until Guindon buried one late in the period after a lead feed from Petrovsky.

The Spitfires wasted no time after the puck dropped in the second however to pull even, scoring just 26 seconds into the frame. It was the first of four times that the visiting Spitfires clawed back to even the game, as the defending Western Champions showed no quit.

The game really opened up for a five minute stretch, midway through the second period, as the teams combined for four goals in that stretch. For their part the Attack showed great resolve, as though they surrendered a lead four times throughout the night, the Bears never looked deflated or defeated, sticking to their game until the final buzzer.

Ethan Burroughs, would chip a puck home, to give the Attack their fourth lead of the game close to the halfway point of period 3, only to see Windsor’s Matthew Maggio tie things up just five minutes later.

As the extra frame began, it did not look promising for the Attack, as Windsor controlled the puck off the draw, but as they entered into the offensive zone were called for an interference penalty, which set the stage for Barlow.

In the Attack net, it was Corbin Votary getting his second start of the season, as he turned aside 22 of 26 shots, and looked solid.
