Attack Fall to Sting in Wednesday Night Affair

The Owen Sound Attack surrendered a pair of goals just 1:40 apart in the third period, and fell 3-2 to the Sarnia Sting, on the road Wednesday night.

After a pair of disappointing outings over the Thanksgiving Weekend, the Attack showed a better effort Wednesday night, particularly in staying out of the post whistle activities. Owen Sound was able to force the play much of the opening frame, as their team speed resulted in three straight power play opportunities. It was during the third power play, a 5-on-3 advantage when Deni Goure finally broke through, as he blasted a one-timer home with just a few seconds left on the first penalty.

The Sting were able to pull even on their own power play opportunity later in the period, as the team’s went into the intermission all squared at 1’s.

Owen Sound ran into some issues to begin the second period, as the Sting were able to slow play, and keep the Attack to the outside. It was just before the mid-way point, when an excellent shift by a line of Cedrick Guindon, Julian Fantino and Tomislav Brennan created havoc, resulting in Brennan’s first career OHL goal. The rookie sniped his shot past Sting goalie Ben Gaudreau, after taking a centring feed from Guindon.

Though taking the lead into the final period, the Attack began to struggle to gain the middle of the ice, and failed to get separation from the Sting with a late period power play chance.

Attack goalie Nick Chenard was solid throughout the night, as he made 27 saves on 30 shots, and dealt with heavy traffic in front of him all night. That traffic helped the Sting claim the lead early in period three, before locking the game down and not giving the Attack any chances on Gaudreau.

Owen Sound will look to break out of their three game slump Friday night when they visit Kitchener, before returning home to the Bayshore for a Saturday night tilt with the Windsor Spitfires.
