The Owen Sound Attack continue to look for answers as they fell 6-2 against rival Guelph Storm on Family Day Monday.

Early into the day’s action it looked as though the Attack would snap their recent slump, as over age forward Matthew Papais stripped a Storm defender before beating Patrick Leaver over the blocker. The goal provided an extra boost to the Attack bench, as the Bears were hungry in the opening 20 minutes of play, firing 17 shots on the Guelph net.
The quantity of shots from the Attack did not result in any change on the scoreboard, as Owen Sound held a 1-0 lead all into the second period. It was during an Owen Sound penalty kill, that the Storm were able to pull even and get on the scoreboard. Guelph then capitalized on strong forechecking pressure, as leading scorer Braeden Bowman scored his first of two goals on the afternoon. It was less than two minutes later that the Storm scored on another power play opportunity to stretch their lead to 3-1. Owen Sound was able to grab some momentum back before the intermission, as Papais sniped his second of the afternoon with a perfect transition play by the Attack.
Unfortunately, for the Bears the momentum built late in period two was erased by Bowman’s second goal just over a minute into the third period. The Attack would press to cut the lead back to a single goal, but Guelph showed strong defence, and when Owen Sound had opportunities, Leaver was solid in the Storm net. A pair of empty net goals in the final minutes of the game sealed the game at 6-2 as the Attack dropped their fourth straight game.
Owen Sound will have a quick turnaround as they welcome another division rival in the Erie Otters to the Bayshore Wednesday night. Fans can purchase tickets for the game at online or by calling the MacVicor and McComb Sutton Realty Attack Box Office at 519-371-7452.
