A’s take sixth straight in 8-1 win over Frenzy

BROOKLYN, NY – The New York Aviators skated to their team-high sixth straight win with an 8-1 victory over the Rome Frenzy on Thursday night in Federal Hockey League action. Matt Puntureri lead the way offensively with a season high seven points, which included a hat trick, and Jesse Felten chipped in with six points and a hat trick of his own to help New York gain their 12th win on home ice. New York exploded for a team high five first period goals against Rome.  Puntureri started the night off with his 19th goal of the season just 1:18 in.  However, Felten would out do his teammate with his second hat trick in as many games.  The Wisconsin native scored his three tallies in a span of 4:15 to give him four first period points.  The Frenzy, though, cut into the already 4-1 lead with Mike Maier’s fifth marker of the season.  New York did not stop after the goal, as Puntueri would give the A’s their four-goal lead back with his second of the period with under four minutes left. The Aviators did not have the high power offense in the second, but still registered the only goal to take a 6-1 edge.  Mike Thomson tallied his 12th of the campaign at the 5:23 mark on a beautiful breakaway shot.  The story though of the second, was A’s net minder Pete Dundovich who turned aside all 20 shots he saw from Rome. Felten then found the back of the net for his fourth goal of the night, also a season high for him, to give New York a 7-1 lead at the 10:37 mark.  Puntureri, not to be out done of course, also scored in the final frame for his third tally of the contest 2:17 later. Dundovich stopped 44 shots on the night to improve his record to 4-4-0, while Rome net minder Anthony Luckow is nabbed with his second loss stopping 10 shots. New York is now 17-12-2 on the year to give them 36 points, inching them closer to second place in the FHL.  Rome falls to 10-22-6. Contact: comment@prohockeynews.com
