Arizona drops 10th straight

PHILADELPHIA – Carter Hart made 29 saves for  the Flyers on Tuesday night in a 3-0 shutout of the visiting Arizona Coyotes.

“We have a good group here,” Hart said. “We have fun and we’re coming to work every day. Our guys are doing their job in front of me of boxing guys out and letting me see the puck and not creating second chances. We’ve done a good job of that so far.”

The Flyers improved to 5-2-1.

The game was scoreless until the Flyers posted three third period goals.

“Not saying we panicked, but at some point we want to win so badly we went away from the way we have to play,” Arizona head coach Andre Tourigny said. “We did a lot of good things, we generated good offense. … We did a lot of good things. But at the same time, if you want to win in that league, you need to stay with it. You need to play a complete game.”

Arizona has now dropped to 0-9-1.

“There’s a lot of emotion,” Arizona’s Barrett Hayton said. “Guys are frustrated. Those three games, you’re going into the start of the third period with the chance to win. Obviously, we have to find a way to score those goals and win that 20 minutes. There’s definitely lots of frustration, a lot of emotion.”

Sean Couturier and Scott Laughton  gave the Flyers a 2-0 lead in the final frame to break the game open.

“I think we stuck to what we needed to do to win this game,” Couturier said. “It wasn’t easy. They’re a tough team to play against. They’re tight, and I think their record doesn’t really reflect the kind of team they are. They’re in a lot of tight games, so it was important for us to stick with it, and I thought we did a good job doing that.”

Claude Giroux add an empty-net goal to ice the win.

Karel Vejmelka made 31 saves for Arizona in the loss.

“When things get tough, you’ve really just got to simplify,” Hayton said. “Those greasy goals, those rebounds, get bodies to the net. I think we did a pretty good job tonight. You saw some of the scrums, we had some good looks, a couple of tips and stuff like that, guys were getting in front of the goalie. I think we just got to stick with that. But we’ve got to find a way.”
