Anaheim skate past lackluster Stars, 3-1 Gibson, Stoner lift Ducks to win

In Dallas Sunday evening, the Anaheim Ducks found a solution to what has been ailing them over the last few games; an easy mark in the Dallas Stars.

John Gibson made 39 saves in the remarkably easy 3-1 win for Anaheim.

“He looked like he didn’t want to give up the net anytime soon,” Ducks coach Bruce Boudreau said of Gibson.Anaheim Ducks

Corey Perry, Clayton Stoner and Ryan Getzlaf scored for the Ducks.

“I think we’re starting to build momentum and play more of our style. We weren’t ourselves there for a little bit,” Stoner said. “I think you’re seeing flashes of our team, the way we can play. Hopefully we can just keep polishing it and fine-tuning it for the playoffs.”

The loss was Dallas’ sixth straight and a sign of the club’s inability to gain any traction and now see most the conference ahead of them.

“I think you’ve heard the same speech enough. I don’t like some of the mistakes we made on the goals,” Stars coach Lindy Ruff said. “I think the lesson is they hung around and waited for that one big mistake we made, and they put it in the back of our net. That was the part that hurt. We turned the puck over in the middle of the ice, and it ended up in the back of our net.”

Patrick Eaves scored the lone for the Stars.

“Yeah, I thought it was great the way we came out in the third period and responded,” Getzlaf said. “I thought we played really good, played tight but not sitting back. That’s what you need when you’re playing this team. Obviously, our group is comfortable in one-goal games and this was another one of those tonight.”

Newly acquired Jhonas Enroth made 19 saves in the loss.

“Every time I get the nod, I’m very excited. That’s something great,” Enroth said. “I’m not afraid of playing a game or anything like that. Every time I get the nod, I see that as something good.”

The question now is who else the Stars will sell as the trade deadline looms at 3 PM Eastern Time Monday.
