RAPID CITY, S.D. – The Allen Americans evened the road trip at 1-1, after a 4-1 victory over the Rapid City Rush on Friday night, in front of 3,425 at the Rushmore Civic Center.
J.P. Lafontaine scored his first career goal, and assisted on another to earn the number one star of the game. Aaron Gens, Dyson Stevenson and Greger Hanson also lit the lamp for Allen. Aaron Gens’ goal came on the power play, as he fired a shot from high in the slot that went in the net off of Rush goalie, Danny Battochio.
“The Doremus line was our best line tonight.” said Americans Head Coach Steve Martinson. “They worked the corners; they got the puck to the point and went to the front of the net. They did a lot of good things tonight.”
Joel Rumpel was fantastic again tonight stopping 24 of 25 Rapid City shots. The Rush were 0 for 3 on the power play, as the number one penalty killing unit in the ECHL improved to 93.8 %. Opponents have just two power play goals in 32 attempts against the Americans this season.
The Americans and Rush resume the two-game set tomorrow night at 8:05 pm CST. You can watch the game at The Franchise Grill & Bar in Plano or 5th Street Pizza in Allen.
