INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Allen Americans rallied late in the third period to tie the score at 6-6, and won the game less than a minute into overtime to defeat the Indy Fuel, by a score of 7-6 on Saturday night at the fairgrounds.
Americans Co-Captain Chad Costello was the hero of the night for Allen, scoring the game winner 38-seconds into OT on a perfect pass from Spencer Asuchak, to end the Americans two-game slide and give Allen its first road win of the season.
The night was also a historical one for Costello, who with his three points, passed the 400-point mark for his career, as well as became the Americans all-time points leader reaching 236 in just a little over two seasons, passing Bruce Graham, who held the previous team record with 235.
“It’s a great honor,” said Costello. “Bruce Graham was such an important part of the early years of this franchise. To be mentioned along with Bruce is pretty special. As far as the 400 points, that just means I’ve played for a long time with some pretty good teammates. “
Greger Hanson, Spencer Asuchak and Eric Roy also finished with three-point nights for the Americans. Hanson who finished a plus three for the night was voted the game’s first star.
The Americans will resume the road trip tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 PM against the Kalamazoo Wings. The team returns home next weekend to face the Alaska Aces next Saturday and Sunday.
