Americans sweep weekend set in Rapid City

RAPID CITY, S.D. – The Allen Americans and Rapid City Rush closed out a weekend set tonight at the Rushmore Civic Center, and it was the Americans coming out on top 7-2.

Allen jumped on the board first in the opening period with two goals in less than a minute. Greger Hanson, his 5th from Justin Baker and Chad Costello. Then Jonathan Parker finds the back of the net for his third of the season from Justin Courtnall and Eric Roy. Allen outshot the Rush 20 to 6 after the first period

Speaking of Roy he would score the third Allen goal in the second frame with a blast from the outside that beat Rush Goalie Marek Langhamer for his second of the season. The Rush would close the gap to 3-2 with two quick goals of their own, however Allen would respond again before the second period came to a close scoring their second shorthanded goal of the season, as Rick Pinkston took a pass from Justin Courtnall in front of the net beating Langhamer to give Allen a 4-2 lead after 40 minutes of play.

The Americans would cash in three more times in the third period, Casey Pierro Zabotel scored twice, while Jonathan Parker added his second of the evening on a backhander from the high slot that went top shelf. The Americans had a season high of seven goals and 49 shots.

The Americans return home on Tuesday night against the Wichita Thunder at 7:05 pm.
