Americans sweep weekend series in Rapid City

RAPID CITY, S.D. – The Allen Americans, ECHL affiliate of the San Jose Sharks, defeated the Rapid City Rush on Saturday night by a score of 5-3 to sweep the weekend two-game set and improve to 2-0 on the season.

The Americans outscored the Rush 3-1 in the opening frame. Alex Guptil opened the scoring for Rapid City, but Allen responded with three of their own. Zach Pochiro, scored his third of the season at the 5:03 mark. Dalton Thrower blasted one from the right-wing boards to give Allen a 2-1 lead. Olivier Archambault made it 3-1 Americans before the period ended.

After Kenton Miller made it 3-2, Bryan Moore scored his first of the season in the second period to give Allen a 4-2 cushion. Garland, Texas native Marcus Ortiz cut the lead to 4-3 at the 14:00 minute mark of the second frame, and that’s how the second period would end.

Olivier Archambault added his second of the night and third of the year, 51 seconds into the final frame to give the Americans another two-goal lead. This time Allen would hold the two-goal lead and go on to win the game by a 5-3 score and sweep the weekend set with the Rapid City Rush.
