TULSA, OK – Three goals from enforcer Jacob Doty and 33 saves from C.J. Motte propelled the Allen Americans (14-28-4) to a 5-0 shutout over the Tulsa Oilers (23-14-6) Friday at the BOK Center.
The Americans raced out to a 13-4 shots advantage in the opening frame, and their hard work paid off, as Jacob Doty followed up his own rebound and scored the period’s only goal to put Allen up 1-0 after 20 minutes. C.J. Motte stopped all four Oilers shots, while Evan Fitzpatrick turned away 12 of 13 Americans attempts.
Doty scored his second of the game midway through the middle period when a second effort on a breakaway put Allen ahead 2-0. Shortly thereafter, Riley Bourbonnais gave the Americans a three-goal cushion when he snapped a shot from between the circles past Fitzpatrick inside his glove-side post. Allen led 3-0 after two.
Motte made 17 saves in the final stanza to preserve his second shutout at the BOK Center this season, while David Makowski and Doty scored goals in the final 1:15 of regulation to complete the scoring. Doty’s goals with 49 seconds left completed his first pro hat trick.
The Oilers and Americans continue the weekend series Saturday at 7:05pm on the York Plumbing Ice at the BOK Center, before finishing off the series Sunday at 4:05pm.
